Painted Brie Bites
Painted Brie Bites- Food becomes art with this simple project that transforms brie cheese into the star of the holiday cheeseboard!

Today, we’re making Painted Brie Bites!
It’s Day 8 in our 12 Days of Cheese series! And today, food becomes art thanks to a fun and simple little painting project.
Do you remember a couple Christmases ago, I taught you how to paint iced sugar cookies with food coloring? Well this year, the wheels in my brain started turning. And, I wondered if you could paint cheese rind with food coloring.
And, guess what? The answer is YES!
I like doing this project on mini brie bites, because you can make multiple different designs to add tons of holiday flare to any cheeseboard or spread. But of course, you can do this on full size brie wheels too. The important part is that the rind is on, because that’s the part we’re going to paint.
Our paint is going to be water based food coloring. I like to use a plastic kids brush for this project, because it’s small, easy to use, easy to clean, and doesn’t retain water. Though we’re using a water based food coloring, water is not necessarily our friend in this project because it causes the food coloring to spread.
Think of this like painting with watercolor paint. Dip a couple drops of food coloring onto a plate, mix colors as needed to create the color you want, and paint away! You don’t need much paint on your brush…a little goes a long way. And, make sure your brush is nice and dry between washes so you don’t end up with puddles of paint on your brie.
From here, you paint the brie in whatever festive designs your heart desires! Once you’re done painting, we’ll toss the cheese back in the fridge for at least a half hour to dry. Then, we’re ready to jazz up a cheeseboard with our festive little bites!
You don’t need to be Picasso for this project to be successful. It’s a fun activity to do with the fam, your kids, or with your besties. It’s the journey, not the destination. Though, these do spruce up a cheeseboard and make it totally adorable…even if all you paint is a little blob!
We’re going to keep our artistic juices flowing tomorrow with the most adorable appetizer there ever was!
I hope you guys enjoy, make sure you tag me on social media so I can see your creations too, and let’s eat!
Painted Brie Bites
Serves: unlimited Print
Ingredients:
Mini brie bites
food coloring (water based)
Directions:
Arrange brie bites on a parchment lined baking sheet. Squeeze a drop of food coloring in a ramekin, plate, or parchment paper. Using a paint brush with plastic bristles, dip the paint brush in food coloring, and paint desired designs on the brie rind. You don’t need much food coloring on the brush…a little goes a long way. Dip the brush in water and dry well in between colors. You don’t want the brush to be wet or the food coloring will spread.
Place the bites in the fridge for 30 mins to dry. Serve on a charcuterie board or however you like to enjoy brie!
Recipe notes:
*A cheapo plastic kid's watercolor paint brush is best for this project.
*I recommend getting a pack of standard food coloring, neon food coloring, and black food coloring. You can make brown by pretty much mixing all of the colors together.
*Of course, full sized brie can be painted too. As long as the rind is still on, that’s all we need.
