Today, we’re making Marble Dipped Strawberries!
Fun fact, if you guys follow me on social media (which if you don’t you totally should), you’ve seen these before. You’ve seen these before a few times, actually. Every year around Valentine’s Day, I tend to make these and share a video tutorial online. But this year, it hit me that I’ve never officially put them on the blog before.
Well, that changes today!
These 2 ingredient dipped berries are easier than they look, but they’re such a show stopper. All we need is strawberries and candy melts!
Let’s talk strawberries. We all know that all strawberries are not created equal. When I’m making these, I like to look through all the containers for the one that has the most “traditionally” shaped berries. I try to avoid excessively large berries or flat and wide berries. We also don’t want berries that are too ripe. Soft or mushy berries aren’t going to cut it for this one. Once we have our berries selected, we need to wash and dry them really well. Extra moisture is not our friend for this one. It’ll prevent the shell from sticking properly. So, I mean it when I say to dry the berries really, really, REALLY well.
To dip our berries, we’re going to use white and colored candy melts. If I’m being honest, I don’t even really know what candy melts are. The best way I can describe them is like vanilla flavored chocolate. You can typically find candy melts at craft stores, specialty baking stores, or even Walmart. White is going to be our base color. And, you can swirl in whatever other colors you like! I typically only swirl in one or two additional colors; I find that’s the sweet spot.
Now one thing to note, candy melts can be temperamental like chocolate. If they’re not fresh, they’re not going to melt to a pourable consistency which is what we need for this project. But have no fear, you’re not out of luck if your candy isn’t smooth and drizzly. All you need to do is stir in the tiniest bit of coconut or vegetable oil, and the candy will smooth right out for you.
So here’s the method, I like to work with small batches of candy melts. I’ll melt white candy melts in an 8 oz ramekin in 15- 30 second intervals until it’s nice and pourable. Then, I’ll melt my colored candy melts in separate small dishes. We only need a couple discs for our swirl colors. From there, we’ll drizzle the colors on top of the white in whatever random pattern you see fit. Don’t mix it; just let the color sit on top.
From there, we’ll insert a skewer into the top of the strawberry to help us hang on to it while we’re dipping. Then, we’ll insert the berry into the candy melts, and gently but slowly turn the skewer in your hands so that the berry rotates a full 360 degrees in the candy. This is what helps to create the marbled effect. Then, we’ll gently tap the skewer against the edge of the ramekin so any excess candy can drip off, gently remove the skewer while placing the berry on a parchment lined baking sheet, and repeat the process.
Now because you’re mixing the colors into the white with every little dip, each marbled berry will be unique and different. If it gets to a point where the white has become too saturated with colors, start over with new melted candy melts in a new, clean ramekin. This is why I only work with a little candy at a time.
Once all the berries are dipped, we need to let the candy set; and we’re left with the most beautiful little treat! I like to use hot pink candy melts for Valentine’s Day. But, you truly can mix in any color you like! I’ve done blue and pink swirls for a baby shower. I’ve done pink and red for Valentine’s Day. The world is your rainbow!
One last thing before I sign off…if you’re a visual learner, definitely check out my TikTok/Instagram (@theyummymuffin02 on both) for a visual tutorial on dipping these berries (and for any new recipe that I post). I promise you, it’s so easy!
Ok, everyone! That’s all I’ve got for today. I hope you guys enjoy. And, let’s eat!
Marble Dipped Strawberries
Serves: 20-24 berries Print
Ingredients:
1 lb strawberries, washed and dried REALLY well
1 ½ cups white candy melts, melted according to package directions
2-3 tbsp hot pink candy melts, melted according to package directions
Directions:
Melt ¾ cup white candy melts in a small microwave safe bowl. (I use an 8oz ramekin.) Drizzle 1-2 tsp pink candy melts on top of the white in a random swirl pattern. The more drizzle, the more marbling effect.
Secure a skewer into the top of the strawberry. Working one at a time, dip the strawberry into the candy melts, and slowly turn the strawberry 360 degrees in the melts to create the swirl pattern. Gently tap the skewer over the edge of the bowl to let any excess candy drop off.
Place strawberry on a wax paper lined baking sheet. Repeat with remaining berries. If the candy melts get too saturated with pink, start over with a clean ramekin and the remaining white/pink candy melts. Allow to set for 30 mins before serving. Store any leftovers in the fridge. Enjoy!
Recipe notes:
*If your candy melts aren’t fresh, they won’t melt to a pourable consistency. If that’s the case, add 1/4 tsp of canola/vegetable/coconut oil for every 1/4 cup candy melts. Stir vigorously until the candy melts smooth out.
*Keep adding pink drizzle to the bowl after every few berries. If the bowl starts to get too saturated with color, start over with a fresh ramekin. That’s why we are working in small batches.
*This recipe is easily doubled/tripled/whatever to coat as many berries as you need!
*You can use any color(s) you like. I typically don’t swirl more than 2 additional colors at a time.
