Candy Cane Spritzers
December 20, 2019 by Nicole Collins
Gumdrops, and sugar plums, and candy canes, oh my!
It’s Day 8 in our 12 Days of Beverages Challenge!
We’re getting classy with our drink today!
Not really. But, from some reason the word “spritzer” just seems fancy to me. Like rich housewife drinking with her friends by the pool fancy. That’s the vision that I get when I hear “spritzer”. Even though I know that’s not accurate, at all. And, I imagine being a wealthy stay and home wife/mother is not nearly as glamorous as the movies make it seem. But, I just can’t help envisioning Elle from Legally Blonde (though she’s not married, I know) and associating the two!
I don’t think it’d be a good idea to go grab our friends to lounge by the pool in these 30 degree temperatures. But, I think we could make a batch of these, gather up our friends, and go curl up by the fireplace with a few rounds of today’s drink!
So today, we’re making Candy Cane Spritzers!
Does that sound totally seasonal, or what!
Like the rest of the drinks we’ve made so far, the ingredient list is short and sweet on this one: white wine, seltzer water, and peppermint schnapps. That’s it! Pour them in a glass, give them a stir, and bottoms up! The key to this drink is making sure all of your ingredients are nice and cold. Ironic, I know considering all I want to do is curl up in all things warm right now. But, that’s what the fireplace is for.
To give these drinks a little extra pizazz, I actually like to break up candy canes and stir them into the drink. As they sit for a bit, they help to give the drink just a little kiss of sweetness. You could also serve candy canes as a swizzle stick and let them double as a garnish!
Either way, the end result is a sweet, minty, refreshing, slightly bubbly after dinner cocktail. It really is a great accompaniment to late night gift wrapping or last minute online shopping!
You know what else is great for both of those things? The other drinks we’ve made so far! Here’s a recap:
Day 1: Pretzel Hot Chocolate
Day 2: Apple Pear Sangria
Day 3: Ninjabread Hot Chocolate
Day 4: Bad Santa Hot Chocolate
Day 5: Fizzy Grinch
Day 6: Christmas Tea
Day 7: The Poinsettia
That’s it for today! Cheers to always drinking responsibly!
Let’s drink!
Candy Cane Spritzer
Serves: 1 Print
Ingredients:
¾ cup white wine (I used pinot grigio)
¼ cup seltzer water
1 ½ tbsp peppermint schnapps
broken candy cane pieces, if desired
Directions:
Pour white wine, seltzer water, and peppermint schnapps into a glass. Stir to mix. Toss a few broken candy cane pieces into the glass to sweeten the drink, if desired. Serve immediately.
Recipe notes:
*Since this drink is mostly wine, use a wine that you like. A sweeter wine would be good here too.
*This drink is best when it's nice and cold, so make sure all of your ingredients are chilled before you mix your drink.
*Please drink responsibly!
