Day 4: White Chocolate Dipped Golden Oreos with Crushed Pretzels

December 16, 2017

Greetings from Day 4: White Chocolate Dipped Golden Oreos with Crushed Pretzels!!

We're doing one of my favorite things today...mixing salty and sweet in to one delicious cookie!

You guys know how I roll, and you know how much I crave salty and sweet balance. Well, these cookies are one of my favorites. And, they're easy to make. And, they're really pretty. And, you could get away with calling them fancy with the right cookie tray!

So, here's the scoop on these cookies. We start with Golden Oreos. I really love Golden Oreos. There are actually moments when I might just love the golden ones more than the chocolate ones! But, we're using the Golden Oreos Thins, not the original size ones. We need to make sure we have an equal cookie to chocolate to pretzel ratio.

We're using white chocolate today because it lends the perfect sweetness to balance out the salty pretzels. Think white chocolate covered pretzels but with a vanilla cookie all stealing space in your bite.

I actually like to use vanilla candy melts as opposed to white chocolate. I find they melt a little easier and thinner which makes for better dipping. The taste is similar enough for me, and I almost always have candy melts in my pantry. You can use whichever you prefer or have!

This cookie is as easy as running the Oreo through the chocolate, setting it on a wax paper lined tray or table, and sprinkling a teaspoon of crushed pretzels on top. We don't crush the pretzels too fine, because we still want to be able to identify the crumble on top as pretzel pieces. Let them set, and voila! Finished!!

Make sure you consider the surface area when you're topping the cookies with pretzels. If it doesn't touch, it won't stick. So, we don't want to overdo it with the pretzels, and we want to make sure to give the pretzels a little press with our fingers to keep them on the cookies.

These are a big hit wherever I take them, and people don't realize how little effort really is involved. Take all the praise you can get for as little work as you can!

Here's a reminder of what we've made so far:

Enjoy, and let's eat!

White Chocolate Dipped Golden Oreos with Crushed Pretzels

Serves: 36 cookies Print

Ingredients:

  • 36 (almost 1 whole pack) Golden Oreos Thins

  • 12 oz vanilla candy melts or white chocolate

  • 1 ½ cups pretzel crumbs (about 3 cups whole pretzels)

  • up to 1 tsp canola oil, optional

Directions:

  1. Melt the vanilla candy melts or white chocolate in a microwave safe bowl according to package directions. If you're using white chocolate and it's not melting well, add up to 1 tsp of canola oil to the chocolate and mix well to thin out the chocolate.

  2. Line a large tray or baking sheet with waxed paper. Dip 1 cookie at a time in to the melted chocolate, turning with a fork to make sure the cookie is completely covered. Let excess chocolate drip off of cookie, and place on the lined baking sheet. Top each cookie with 1 tsp pretzel crumbs, lightly pressing to adhere the crumbs to the chocolate.

  3. Repeat until all cookies have been dipped. Enjoy!

Recipe notes:

*I like to use vanilla candy melts for this instead of melted white chocolate. I find that candy melts are a little thinner when melted and easier to dip the cookies in. I get my candy melts from the craft store, but Walmart sells them too. Feel free to use melted white chocolate for these instead!

*It’s all about utilizing the surface area when it comes to these cookies. The more pretzel crumbs that touch the chocolate, the more pretzel crumbs that will stick to the cookie, remember that.

*We want the pretzel crumbs to have some texture to them. I like to put mine in a freezer bag, and beat them with a hammer. It’s therapeutic! You can also run them through a food processor if you don’t have any aggression to release, just don’t take it too far.

*These can be stored in an airtight container for about a week.
