Flower Wreaths

Happy Memorial Day!
First off, a HUGE THANK YOU to everyone out there that fights to keep our country safe every day. “We live in the land of the free because of the brave.” It's important to remember that Memorial Day was not a holiday invented for barbecues.
Today's project is one that I've actually become recently obsessed with. Wreath making.
I've always been a Dollar Store front door décor kind of gal. But one rainy day, I decided to try my hand at making a pretty, flowery wreath; and now I can't stop myself.
I don't know what it is, but I really like to craft when it's raining. I guess because there's really nothing else fun I can do when I'm stuck inside. It's been raining here all weekend, so what better time to make a patriotic wreath. Actually, it's been raining all week. Actually, it's been raining all month. Actually, I think someone picked up Baltimore and dropped it in Seattle, but forgot to tell me.
The wreath I made today is themed to take us all the way from Memorial Day through Labor Day. But, the cool thing about this project is that you can totally customize this project to whatever holiday, season, or color scheme you like! I've made a spring one, a fall one, and a Valentine's day one.
This project is very simple. You need a wreath base, some ribbon, some fake flowers, and some hot glue. That's it! Start by wrapping the wreath base in ribbon to make it pretty. Remove the flowers from their stems, and cut off the little nubber that attaches it to the stem. Glue the flowers around the top side of the wreath. And, glue on some embellishments to finish it off if you want to add some extra bling.
The most difficult part about this project is getting yourself out of the hot glue web that you somehow end up weaving around yourself and others. Please tell me that I'm not the only one out there that struggles with keeping the hot glue where it is intended to go.
And even better, this project is totally low cost! I usually get my fake flower bouquets from the dollar store. I get ribbon from the sale bin at the craft store. And I use a 50-55% off coupon for the wreath base from the craft store. So, this is definitely not one of those “spend $99 to make something you could buy for $20” type projects.

Flower Wreath
Materials:
Foam wreath base
Ribbon (I needed 2 spools)
Artificial flowers, removed from stem and trimmed
Hot glue gun with refills
Embellishments
Directions:
Wrap ribbon around foam wreath base, and hot glue at the end to secure.
Use hot glue to attach flower heads to the top side of the wreath in your desired pattern.
Add embellishments, if desired.
Use leftover ribbon to make a loop to tie around the wreath for hanging.
Project Notes:
* We want to trim the flowers to make them as flat as we can to help them lay on the wreath.
* I like to get embellishments that are attached to wire so I can stick them in the foam without having to glue them down. It adds some texture to the wreath, too.
* Get flowers in different shades and styles to add flare to the wreath.
* Choose a ribbon color that matches the scheme of your project.
