Hawaiian Pizza Sliders
December 8, 2018 by Nicole Collins
I get to tell Santa what a good girl I've been this year today on Day 8!
I'm going to see Santa, not once but twice today!
First up, I'm taking the bestie and her kids to Breakfast with Santa at my church. Then, I'm going to grab my kids (the pups) and take them to get their picture with Santa a little later this afternoon. Santa is going to be a busy guy today!
Since I'm going to have so much time with Santa today, I've been thinking of asking him to settle a debate for me.
Pineapple on pizza: brilliant or worth all of the shame in the world?
I'm hoping he's on my team. I'm TOTALLY team pineapple on pizza! I don't eat a ton of pizza, but Hawaiian pizzas are absolutely my go to. And, I really don't appreciate all the haters out there that act like you have a disease if you like pineapple on pizza.
So, I'm counting on you, Santa, to settle the score!
Today, we're taking my favorite pizza and we're turning it in to a slider. That's right! And, you better believe there's pineapple in there.
Today, we're making Hawaiian Pizza Sliders!
We start with some Hawaiian slider rolls. Because honestly, is there any better slider roll when you're making sammies for a crowd? They're soft, and a little sweet, and they are so versatile. I love Hawaiian slider rolls sooo much!
Then, we pile all the classic flavors from a Hawaiian pizza right in the middle of these slider buns: deli ham, red onion, crispy bacon, pineapple rings, and deli mozzarella. I'd be happy with that sandwich as is. But, we're going to make it even better by brushing the tops with some garlic butter mixed with Italian seasoning (to make it taste extra pizza like). And then, we're going to bake it in the oven until the tops are golden, the bottoms are crispy, and the cheese is nice and melty on the inside.
You can't have pizza without sauce! So, we're serving some marinara on the side for dipping. Does it really get any better than a sandwich that comes with it's own dip?!?
If you're a Hawaiian pizza hater, I guarantee your minds will be changed after having a bite of these sammies. Again, it's my favorite blend of salty and sweet. And, I haven't steered you wrong this far, have I?
Instead of fighting the urge to come over to Team Pineapple on Pizza, let's just take a look at some of the other noms we've made so far this week:
Day 1: Holiday Charcuterie Boxes
Day 2: Honey Goat Cheese Tartlettes
Day 3: Chicken and Donut Bites
Day 4: Sweet Chili Meatballs
I'm thinking tomorrow sounds like a good day for a salty snack, so make sure to check in to see what's poppin'!
Catch you later! Let's eat!
Hawaiian Pizza Sliders
Serves: 24 Print
Ingredients:
2 packs (24 total) Hawaiian slider rolls, sliced in half
24 slices (about 1 lb) black forest deli ham
½ small red onion, thinly sliced
12 pineapple rings (from a can), drained and cut in half
12 slices bacon, cooked and broken in half
12 slices deli mozzarella, cut in to fours
1 stick (8 tbsp) unsalted butter, melted + 1-2 tbsp additional for greasing pan
2 tsp Italian seasoning
½ tsp garlic powder
marinara sauce, for serving
Directions:
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Take 1-2 tbsp butter, and rub along the bottoms and sides of 2 9x13 casserole dishes to grease the pans.
Take the bottom halves of the slider rolls, and place 12 in each casserole dish. Layer remaining sandwich ingredients in this order per sandwich: 1 slice ham, 1-2 strips of red onion, 1 pineapple ring half, 1 half of bacon (broken again in half), 2 squares of mozzarella, and the tops of the slider buns.
In a small bowl, combine 1 stick melted butter, Italian seasoning, and garlic powder. Brush over the tops of each sandwich. Drizzle any remaining butter evenly over the sandwiches. Bake uncovered for 20 mins, tent with foil, and baked covered an additional 10 mins. Serve with marinara sauce.
Recipe notes:
*Greasing the pans with butter helps to get the bottom of the sammie nice and crispy. This is not one of the times when we want to make cleanup easy by lining the pan with foil, unless you're going to butter the foil.
*I used prepacked deli ham, and that was about 2 packages for me.
